TODAY IN CLASS

-Speaking about Halloween + ordenar texto sobre el origen de Halloween, from CHRVRS Rsrcs.

Order the paragraphs to know a little bit more about Halloween:

A. The Celtic New Year began on 1st November, and the Celts believed that the last day of the year, October 31st, evil spirits were present. Large fires called bonfires helped scared the spirits away.

B.On Halloween people watch horror films and carve jack-o´-lantern. Children go to parties and tell scary stories and bob for apples

C.Two thousand years ago, the Celts in Ireland, the United Kingdom and France celebrated Samhain festival.

D.Celts also offered food and drink to assist the spirits on their journey.

E.The festivities begin weeks before 31st October. Children have to decide on a costume to wear for Halloween and decorate their homes with scary decorations.

F.This festival marked the end of autumn and the beginning of a long, cold winter.

G.Today, food, drink and scary decorations are still a part of the festival, but the true spirit of Halloween is to have fun.

-Corrección listening (para completar) from Inside Out III Workbook, Track 21: NON-NATIVE ACTOR

A: How long have you BEEN (1) an actor, Marco?

B: Only about three years, I came to London about three years ago because my WIFE (2) is English. When I first arrived, my English wasn't very good and it was difficult to find a job .Then someone SUGGESTED (3) I become an actor.

A: But how could you be an actor without good English?

B: At the beginning I was just a BACKGROUND (4) artist, it was only later that I got to be a walk-on actor.

A: What's the DIFFERENCE (5)?

B: Well, background artists don't say anything. You just see them WALKING (6), past or standing around in a party or something like that, as a walk-on the camera may zoom in on you and you may have a LINE (7) or two to say.

A: What kind of roles do you get?

B: I might be just someone hanging around on the STREET (8) or at a party but they tend to cast me as businessman. If only I´m a party GUEST (9) in the new James Bond film. And I was a soldier in “Saving Private Ryan” and if I have a speaking part they make me into a RUSSIAN (10), a gangster usually, because of my rugged good-looks or more probably my accent, there aren't many Slovenian CHARACTERS (11).

A: Is it well paid?

B: It all DEPENDS (12), it starts at about 80 pounds a day but you can make three or four times more if you get through a DIFFICULT (13) casting.

A: What are you up to at the moment?

B: Tomorrow I'll be FILMING (14) an episode of “Eastenders” that's one of the soaps over here. Do you get it in the States? I'll be playing, guess what?, a businessman from a MULTINATIONAL (15) corporation who gets mugged in the  street. And then on Friday I'll be playing a party guest in an episode of “Emmerdale”. Have you HEARD (16) of it? I must admit I've never watched myself but I suspect it's a lot of rubbish.

A: Anything else (17)?

B: Yes, there's a lot of work at the moment. By the end of the MONTH (18) I`ll have done maybe eight or nine days of shooting but I think my English is QUITE (19) good now and I'll be looking for some other kind of work next month. I´ve had ENOUGH (20) of sitting around all day waiting to be CALLED (21) for my walk-on. It's not the most EXCITING (22) work in the world.
